On a beautiful Saturday at the end of October, I was asked to drive down to Point Clear, Alabama to watch and photograph the annual Polo at the Point event for Garden and Gun Magazine. This excited me for a number of reasons, one being that I love the quality of Garden and Gun magazine. Two, I had never been to the polo event and had been wanting to go. And three, I was going to be able to meet/photograph/visit with Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump and other great books!

Strobist info: I knew ahead of time that I wouldn't be able to do this shoot in my normal style with big lights and modifiers. Although I desperately wanted to at least bring one light, I knew that at this kind of event, being discreet was the best method. I also researched past Garden & Gun imagery to see what was used and how it was done. I finally decided to use a low aperture, ambient light and a touch of fill flash when necessary. It was definitely a different style than my normal work but it matched the style of the magazine's past work and in the end, they were very satisfied with the result.
